Lobelia Lust Redux

Well, I was right to be worried about its location. After about a two weeks under the pine tree, the Lobelia didn't seem to be doing terribly well . Even M noticed: "It doesn't really look as spectacular as it did when you brought it home." (Compare the basket in the photo below with the one pictured in the previous entry, and I think you'll see a difference.)

A friend of mine has a similar hanging basket, so I asked about location. At his house, it lives it under a pergola, which creates that perfect, dappled, sun/shade blend that Lobelia seems to want. Unfortunately, I don't have a pergola. For that matter, I don't have dappled anything in the backyard: nearly every location is all sun, all shade, or morning-shade-with-afternoon-sun (which you'd think would equate to "dappled," but afternoon sun can be pretty harsh).

So a little experimentation is probably in order. For now, we're trying it by the veranda. We'll see what happens.
